New iPhones and iOS Update: What to Expect

The spotlight is invariably on the new iPhones, and it’s easy to see why; their attractive designs and innovative features often elicit excitement. However, while the new iPhone 17 will only impact those who opt to purchase it, the impending launch of iOS 26 will have a broader effect, introducing new functionalities and a revamped design for all users with an iPhone 11 or later model when it becomes available for download on September 15.

Apple Responds to DOJ Antitrust Lawsuit: Key Arguments, Strategies & Implications

Apple has altered its iOS naming strategy this time around. Currently, the latest version is iOS 18, which followed a sequential numbering system. Two years prior, iOS 17 was released, followed by iOS 16 the year before that, and so on. However, Apple is now making a significant leap to iOS 26, reflecting the upcoming year. Along with this name change, the company has revealed its first substantial visual update in over a decade, termed Liquid Glass, which will also feature integration with the latest version of ChatGPT.

Exciting New Features

  1. Real-Time Language Translation
Gone are the days of fumbling with outdated phrasebooks that often led to miscommunications. Apple’s new AI-driven translation feature allows for real-time language translation across various platforms, including Messages, FaceTime, and regular phone calls. This advancement enables users to engage in conversations in different languages without the need for cumbersome translation apps. The processing occurs directly on the device, ensuring that conversations remain private and secure.

  2. Enhanced ChatGPT Integration
Apple has notably lagged in the realm of artificial intelligence compared to competitors. While the iOS 18 version included basic AI functionality, users can expect a significant upgrade with iOS 26, which incorporates ChatGPT-5. OpenAI claims this latest version is a major advancement in AI capabilities, promising quicker responses, improved accuracy, and better quality in creative writing prompts.

  3. Liquid Glass Design Update
Before even exploring the new functionalities in iOS 26, users will immediately notice a refreshed aesthetic. The new Liquid Glass design gives menus and buttons a sleek, almost three-dimensional look, resembling the effect of raindrops. This design incorporates a translucent quality, allowing underlying colors to adapt intelligently to different lighting conditions, enhancing the overall user experience.

  4. Improved Call Screening Technology
With the increasing number of spam calls, Apple is leveraging technology to help users filter out unwanted calls. When an unidentified or suspicious number calls, an automated voice will query the caller’s identity and purpose. This response is transcribed and displayed on the user’s screen, allowing them to decide whether to engage or send the call to voicemail. This feature aims to minimize the intrusion of unwanted sales pitches and scams.

  5. Customizable Message Backgrounds
iOS 26 introduces a long-awaited feature that allows users to personalize the background in the Messages app. Users can choose from preset designs, solid colors, or even images from their photo library. Additionally, the update includes options to rearrange menu bar items, send polls, and identify who is typing in group conversations, making the messaging experience far more engaging.

Explore Apple’s Latest Offerings

As anticipation builds for the release of Apple’s new devices, fans can look forward to the iPhone 17 and the latest Apple Watch models, among other innovations. With these new updates, Apple aims to enhance user experience and stay competitive in an ever-evolving tech landscape.
